During the winter, there are certain home improvement tasks you should take care of. Some are necessary, and some are purely for aesthetic effect.
You need to clean out your gutters. If your gutters are clogged with leaves and debris, water will build up in them. Not only can it cause the gutters and your paint to get damaged, but the water can freeze up.
You also have to take care of your heating system and your furnace, if you have one. For your heating system, make sure to conduct a maintenance check or have a professional do a tuneup. For your furnace, make sure that all the necessary components are properly oiled, that the filter is clean, that your chimney is clean, and that everything is working properly. Once you are at it, make sure to check your smoke alarms and your carbon monoxide detector. Make sure they are in working condition and that they have batteries that are not dead.
Other home improvement tasks are optional, but will make your home look prettier. For example, you can redo parts of your home. You can add flowers to the inside of your home and even to the outside, depending on the weather in your area and the type of flowers.
Make sure to clean the snow off your driveway and front steps. Use salt to prevent them from becoming slippery.
