Doug Levitt Takes A Journey Through The Lives Of Everyday Public Travelers

Millions of Americans rely on public transportation for traveling to and from. Each day they battle the obstacles of public transportation, as well as form unexpecting relationships, both temporary and long lasting. The Greyhound Bus Line is one of the most popular amongst the choices for American travelers. This is why former foreign correspondent for London based news station Doug Levitt decided to go on a journey and capture the stories of the Greyhound passengers. Levitt set out on a 70,000 mile and nearly a decade long Greyhound ride. Through pictures, stories and songs he was able to capture the stories of Americans and their struggles in everyday life, from transportation needs to feeding their families. So many of us share the same stress or problems, Levitt gave these citizens a chance for their voices to not only be heard, but to reach someone who may also be going through the same thing and let them know “I too feel your suffering, but we will be fine.”

He was born in 1972 in Washington, D.C and is a talented vocalist, pianist and guitar player. He attended Cornell University for undergraduate studies, and because of his educational strength, he was awarded a fulbright scholarship for his graduate studies. Levitt earned his master’s degree in International Relations at the London School of Economics. Upon graduation, Levitt spent many years working as a foreign correspondent, but had always had a passion for music. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 2001 and quickly befriended David Henry, one of America’s most notable music producers. The two decided to work together on the Greyhound Diaries project.
