Despite the influx of information regarding female role models in business and career advancement, most people find it difficult retrieving accurate data from the pile of generic information. However, Susan McGalla has forged a different path based on her exemplary and unique skillset. McGalla currently serves as the Founder of P3 Executive Consulting, a leading enterprise specializing in talent management, operational efficiencies, branding and marketing to her diverse range of clients. As a trendsetter in the industry, McGalla recently shed some insight into how women can make significant advancement in business. Having spoken at prominent institutions such as the Carnegie Mellon University Speaker Series and the Women and Girl’s Foundation, McGalla deemed it necessary to hold a one-to-one interview.

McGalla hails the significant steps taken by women in entrepreneurship. According to her, most women have strived to seek an authentic perspective with practical solutions to solve various challenges. Concepts such as party lines have been rendered obsolete to women who want to be considered as excellent professionals.

Personal Background

Mrs. McGalla credits her humble beginnings for significantly shaping up her character and personality. Having grown up with two older brothers and a football coach for a father, McGalla valued the importance of hard work and exuding confidence while presenting her ideas before an audience. Her remarkable interaction with both men and women elevated her professional career and played an instrumental role in her success. McGalla initially served at the Joseph Horne Company as her career found its footing. Afterward, she moved on to American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. which happened to be her niche at the time.

While at the company, McGalla had to surpass expectations and go the extra mile especially in a male dominated company with hardly any woman in an executive position. During her ten year stay at the company, McGalla learnt valuable lessons as cultural diversity positively contributed to the generation of remarkable ideas which inadvertently took the company to greater heights. While at the company, McGalla held various positions such as chief merchandising officer and president. Such positions placed her in a management role to oversee the generation of over $3B, building four brands through an e-commerce platform and managing the P&L.

Since taking over the reins of the company, McGalla has also advanced her resume by becoming a consultant to influential personalities who need an expert’s perspective on the world market. According to her, having independence in her career is directly attributed to years of hard work and pursuing a goal she was passionate about. More importantly, humility also kept her grounded and prevented any chip from developing on her shoulder.
